What Makes Us Different

A Lifelong Home, Not a Temporary Stop

Unlike traditional rescues, we don’t adopt our cats out. Every cat who comes to Cheshire Cat Sanctuary stays for life. We specialize in caring for seniors, special-needs, and medically complex cats—those who are often overlooked elsewhere. Our mission is not just rescue, but permanence, dignity, and daily care for as long as they need us.

Cheshire Cat Sanctuary was created to fill a gap we saw again and again—cats who were safe, but not secure. Seniors passed over for being “too old.” Cats with medical needs labeled “too much.” Shy or fearful cats who struggled in busy shelter environments. Time after time, we saw animals who had been rescued, but still didn’t have a place where they truly belonged.

Traditional rescues do incredible, lifesaving work—taking cats in, providing care, and finding them adoptive homes so they can help the next animal in need. But we realized that not every cat fits that model. Some need more than a second chance. They need permanence.

At Cheshire Cat Sanctuary, we operate differently. When a cat comes to us, they stay. There are no adoption applications, no deadlines, and no risk of being returned. This is their home for life.

We specialize in caring for senior cats, special-needs cats, and those with chronic medical conditions or behavioral challenges. Our focus is not on how many cats we can place—but on the quality of life we can provide. That means planning for long-term medical care, creating stable routines, and giving each cat the time, patience, and environment they need to feel safe.

Our success doesn’t look like quick adoptions. It looks like a fearful cat learning to trust, a senior cat living out their final years in peace, and a once-overlooked life finally experiencing comfort and love.
